The Bund

Since 100 years, The Bund has been a symbol of Shanghai . The area begins at the Waibaidu Bridge at the estuary of Suzhou Creek in the north, and ends at Jinling Dong Lu in the south, with a total length of 1.5km. The Bund is located by the Huangpu River . On The Bund you can find a group of buildings known as "a gallery of world architecture". These buildings were built during 1920s-1940s respectively with different architectural styles representing Shanghai 's history of international settlers. Even though the buildings have different architectural styles they are well harmonized. Most of the buildings were owned by banks and the Bund was the financial center of old Shanghai .

The section extending from the new Bund to Nanpu Bridge is called the southern Bund, which will be built into a new financial and business zone. This area will be the site of the 2010 World's Fair.

Oriental Pearl TV Tower

Opposite the Bund by the Huangpu River can be found ‘Lu Jia Zui', the new financial center of Shanghai . The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is on the top-side of Lu Jia Zui, facing the buildings in the Bund.

The tower was completed on Oct. 1st 1994 . With it's 468 meters in height it is the highest of such kind of tower in Asia and the third highest in the world. Only the TV towers in Toronto and Moscow are higher. The architectural modeling of the tower is unique, expressing the artistic concept of "pearl, big and small, dropping on a jade plate" - a famous sentence in a famous Chinese old poem. The tower is all in one, combines sightseeing, catering, shopping, recreation, accommodation, broadcasting and TV transmission.
